Well folks, after many months and years of creating, us Little Market folks have decided to call it a day at the Little Market At Avid.

There are a few reasons for this, but mostly we all just felt it was time to let go and move onto new adventures in our various corners of S.E. Queensland.

We'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support over our duration and wish you all the very best for the future.

Once again we'll be bringing you plenty of handmade loveliness from local creatives with musical entertainment provided by the delightful a cappella trio Muddy Tutu.

Muddy Tutu at the July and August Little Market:

acoustic, folk, blues, a cappella/accompanied,

of the heart, mostly originals

How long have you been collaborating and what made you decide to take this step?

We have been singing together as Muddy Tutu since 2007, but prior to that we had all been members of the a cappella ensemble “The Esplanados”, but originally met at a community choir called “Tongues of Fire”, so we go waaay back, to around early 2002.

The main reason we decided to “take this step” and sing together as a trio is that

(a) we all love singing together,

(b) we all get along really well and care about each other as good friends,

and

(c) Helen and Kath both write original songs and wanted to collaborate with other musicians to bring them to life, and Christine has excellent arranging and notating skills, so we realised we made a great team together.

What's the origin of your name?

We played around with lots of combinations of words, trying to arrive at a juxtaposition of imagery/vibe…finally we came the full circle and decided to use the name of a short-lived performance group that Kath had been a part of in Wales, UK. And we all agreed that 'Muddy Tutu' conjures up a playful image we three can relate to, of Woodford Folk Festival folk dressed up like 'fairies-of-the-forest' and wearing muddy gumboots.

Who or what inspires your song writing?

It’s different every time, but it's probably fair to say that generally they are originally inspired by a real event/emotion/thought/cathartic process, but that they can end up taking on a life of their own as the song is “crafted”.

Where are you hoping to take Muddy Tutu?

We all have busy lives beyond Muddy Tutu so our hopes aren’t of a hugely ambitious nature. Mostly we want to continue working together/recording/performing as and when the rest of life allows. We are doing it for the love of it rather than for competitive or ambitious reasons.

It's almost that time again!

The Little Market At Avid is on again in a little under two weeks.

Many of our delightful regulars will be back along with a couple of new faces.

And this month we're super excited to have Muddy Tutu performing some laid back acoustic tunes to add to the ambience of your little market experience.

Snappy snaps - June

Twas a little chilly at our Little Market but still a lovely evening. I had intended to have some cracking tunes playing on our weeny portable record player but sadly left the records at home in the crazy rush to get out of the house on time. Luckily the Mister had done a bit of record shopping so we had two whole albums to alternate on the player. I don't think anyone noticed that they were listening to Kim Salmon and David Byrne on a constant rotation.

Alicia and Nat shared a table chock full of gorgeous kids clothes, jewellery, hair clips, fold up hats and more and also featured an original Lamp it Up, UPcycled Lamp.

Dash Robin was back with winter woolies.

Jenny Jump returned with some new Jumplings and a gorgeous new painting.

Angie kept warm modelling one of her own felt creations.

Cas demoed up a storm with her reusable sandwich wraps.

Chrissy & Bec shared a table of eco friendly goodness.

And as usual Little Miss B kept us all entertained, this time playing hide n seek under the tables.

We're back in our regular time slot, last friday of the month 5.30 - 8pm at the Avid Reader.

If you plan to pop over to check out some fantastic handmade crafts make sure you rug up as it's sure to be a little chilly and if you do forget your woolies there's some lovely warm things to tempt you.

in my half asleep blogging last night I somehow managed to leave out the lovely Kate from Dash Robin. Kate is an eco craft maker, vintage rescuer and avid UPcycler who makes softies, scarves, brooches and more from pre-loved fabric and op shop wool. We had a delightfully busy market last week with just the right number of stall holders for the little verandah at avid and a steady stream of west enders checking out the handmade goodness.
